PALMER — Here are two new words to add to your art vocabulary: Upcycle and re-purpose.

The place to try these words out will be at Cover Ups in Palmer starting at 1 p.m., Saturday when Teresa Roy of Cover Ups and Dale Campbell of Upholstery Gallery will show their latest artistic re-creations of furniture and found objects.

Roy said she prefers the term “re-purposing” to describe what she does. She said she works hard to insure that every piece still retains its utility even if the purpose has changed while upcycling (a step up from recycling) its artistic or design qualities.

She and Dale will have dozens of examples, including a chest that has become a loveseat replete with innerspring upholstered seat or a carved shaker-style headboard that has become a sidebench.

Saturday’s show will include presentations by the artists discussing their inspirations and methods they use in the pursuit of re-purposing and upcycling furniture.

Roy’s barrel stave clock that has been part of the Palmer Museum of History and Art’s current show “UPCYCLE: The Art of Recycling” will be back at Cover Ups for this special show.
