WASILLA — Musician Kevin Montgomery will perform a second fundraising concert to benefit Mat-Su Valley homeless youth at 6 p.m., Aug. 24 when the singer-songwriter will launch his “50 States in 50 Days” tour at Mat-Su Cinema.

Montgomery is donating proceeds from the concerts nationally to help homeless teens. Locally, the concert will benefit Mat-Su Youth Housing — a newly formed nonprofit that is developing and coordinating a variety of youth housing solutions in the Valley.

Montgomery efforts are in conjunction with the Orange Duffle Bag Foundation, which was launched by a book written by former Georgia Tech football player Sam Bracken and Montgomery’s sister, Echo Garret. The book shares Bracken’s journey from poverty and homelessness to a full-ride scholarship and a college education.

“I love Alaska,” Montgomery said. “I love the Alaskan pioneering spirit. I am excited to be involved with this project and happy to have the Valley the focus of my Alaska tour.”

Tickets are a suggested donation of $20. For $35, admission includes a signed copy of Montgomery’s CD “Some Comfort.”
