Stanley Lee Coleman, aged 96, resident of Palmer Veterans and Pioneer Home, Palmer, Alaska passed away on April 27, 2023 peacefully in his own bed.

Celebration of Life service will be held at Faith Bible Fellowship, 14425 W. Kluane Drive, Big Lake, Alaska on Monday, May 15th at 4:00 in the afternoon, with reception to follow. The service will be conducted by Senior Pastor, Jon Miller and Elder Paul Stapley.

Stan was born on March 4, 1927 in Temple, Texas to James and Frederica Coleman, the 3rd of 4 children. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the US Navy to serve in WWII. He earned the Asiatic- Pacific Campaign medal and the Victory Medal. Upon honorable discharge at the end of the war, he attended Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas. He met his wife, Velma Grace there and graduated with a degree in Sociology. He and Velma married on February 10, 1950. They had 3 children. Stan and his family lived in multiple different states during his career. He worked with the Texas Prison System, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and Job Corps. He took an early retirement when he and his family were living in the Kansas City, KS area. He and Velma relocated to San Angelo, Texas. They traveled for a few years in a 5th wheel trailer, while Velma was dealing with worsening Multiple Sclerosis. He was able to assist in multiple mission trips to Mexico during his retirement, delivering medical and dental supplies to small villages. Stan and Velma moved to Alaska in 2011. Velma passed away in 2014. He loved fishing, hunting, carpentry and taking his grandchildren to get ice cream. He was known as “Ice Cream Grandpa” and later on in life as “Old Man Grandpa”. Many that know him, saw him as a true gentleman. Stan loved Jesus Christ and acknowledged Him as Lord and Savior. That belief shaped his life.

His survivors include his children: Jann Fenton, Karen Arndt, and Steve Coleman: His brother Forrest Coleman: His grandchildren, Mike (Jessica) Griffin, Jason (Kristin) Carmitchel, Shelly Griffin, Sandra (Jason) Gwynn, Matthew Griffin, and Victor Coleman. Stan has 19 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma, his sister Ruth Miller and his brother James Coleman.
