PALMER — People have until 4:30 p.m., Dec, 17 to apply to serve on the board of directors for the Alaska State Fair. Application packets may be obtained by contacting Jerry at jerry@alaskastatefair.org or 746-7155.
The fair’s general membership will vote to fill the two open seats during its annual membership meeting at 7 p.m., Feb. 21, 2013.
Qualified candidates must be state of Alaska residents, at least 18 years old and be current members of Alaska State Fair Inc. Interested applicants can learn more about membership and become a member at alaskastatefair.org.
The board of directors is a policy-setting board and director responsibilities include having an understanding of the fair’s mission statement, articles of incorporation and board policy manual. Each of these items is available for review at alaskastatefair.org.
Directors must also have an understanding of Robert’s Rules of Order and meet various other obligations set forth in the board policy, such as preparing for and attending monthly meetings, and actively participating in committees. Directors also are required to make annual financial contributions, which helps the fair obtain needed grant funds.
