WASILLA — Artists, friends and family filled Upper Room Arts for its first art show Dec. 22 of work by students in the drawing, painting and art survey classes.
The creative display included live Christmas music and refreshments.
The show was busy with a better-than-expected turnout as students toured their guests through the displays of their fall projects.
Student work was displayed on the walls, set out around the room and even on the art room floor. A slideshow of the artists at work scrolled on the flat-screen TV. Artwork was displayed by project. Each grouping explained the intent behind each assignment. Seeing the entire class work together showcased the variety of talent and ideas among the students. Many projects challenged the young artists to express their thoughts about themselves, current events or the future.
Tina Fisher opened Upper Room Arts in January to “engage students with both academic skill and creative expression in visual arts.” Fisher has a background teaching middle school and high school art. Along with being a mom to four boys, she participates in the Art is Worship ministry, does conferences, live painting demonstrations and commissioned work.
