TALKEETNA — A 19-year old Wasilla man died following a Sunday afternoon snowmachine accidents near Talkeetna.
Alaska State Trooper (AST) dispatch stated the department received a call around 3:20 p.m. to respond to a possible snowmachine fatality near Yoder Road in the Talkeetna Mountains. According to reports, snowmachiners in the area found Jacob Harris unresponsive under his idling machine near a steep embankment and attempted to revive Harris at the scene.
Police report poor weather conditions in the area with visibility less than 100 feet. Troopers responded to the scene with assistance from Mat-Su Off-Road Rescue members. Borough officials reported Harris' grandfather arrived on-scene in a private helicopter and transported the body from the accident location.
The State Medical Examiner's Office is conducting an autopsy. Next of kin was notified.
