Talkeetna to stage community ‘Bon Appetit’ art show

The Denali Arts Council and Flying Squirrel Bakery Cafe invite all artists, photographers and crafters to participate in a double community art show themed around food.

The show is titled “Bon Appetit! — the Art of Food, eating, and harvest” runs in conjunction with Northern Susitna Institute’s Key Ingredients Festival.

Submissions of photography and mixed media specifically themed around meals are sought for inclusion in the show.

Flying Squirrel Bakery Cafe also is seeking food-themed fine art submissions, such as paintings, sketches, quilts, mosaics, collage, and other mediums.

Submissions are due Aug. 1 to Aug. 7 for the Art Show Aug. 9. But people are asked to confirm participation by mid-July.

For more information about the Flying Squirrel part of the show, contact Holli at events@denaliartscouncil.org, or Anita at info@flyingsquirrelcafe.com.

And there is another way everyone can participate. Meals, a community slideshow will display how Alaskans eat.

Simply take a photo of a typical meal between June 1 and Aug. 1 and then send it and a one to two sentence statement, or 10-second audio clip, describing your meal.

For this part of the show, email photos and information to aksunmama@gmail.com, or call 733-7929.
