We do not have to have to be a society that damages children’s education, guts its university system, and takes away from our society’s most vulnerable — elders, the sick, children, the disabled, and those with severe behaviorial health issues.
The governor is lying about creating a “right sized” government — he and his temporary budget director have only the intention to shrink government, contract out as many government services as possilbe (no matter the negative impact) and to make Alaska’s government favor the wealthy and private industry.
If the legislature allows these cuts to stand, poorly educated children will never recover, it will be decades before the University recovers and other citizens lives will become untenable.
The impact on our economy will be devastating!
Alaskans have always been about helping each other and seeing ourselves as a unique and cooperative community.
We can take care of each other, educate our children and youth, and receive a reasonable Permanent Fund Dividend.
Our legislators need to be bold and brave and over ride these veto’s.
Do not decimate Alaska’s people and economy.
