A pilot with the 211th Rescue Squadron, based at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, performs low-level proficiency training in a HC-130J Combat King II above the diverse Alaska landscape Sept. 27. The 211th and 212th rescue squadrons provide search-and-rescue capabilities not only while deployed, but also in Alaska, and frequently rescue snowmachiners, hikers, and other individuals in need.

Senior Airman Javier Alvarez

The HC-130J is a version of the well-known C-130 Hercules tactical transport aircraft which has been specially modified and upgraded to perform combat search-and-rescue missions.
