Joy Cypra of Palmer and Rosemary Vavrin of Wasilla were the top speech winners at the Feb. 18 Toastmasters Joint Speech Contest in Palmer.
Capra's speech title was "A New Day" and Vavrin spoke on "The Red Adventure" (Mars).

Contest Chairman Chris Parker expressed his gratitude to all the contestants who participated and for all the officials who made it possible for the two Valley clubs to hold their first joint contest.
"I was very impressed with all the people who showed up from the Valley and from some Anchorage Toastmasters clubs, and the energy in the club was terrific,” Vavrin said. “Our Toastmasters clubs are expanding and we welcome Valley residents to check out what we have to offer.”
The first place winners will compete in similar contests with other clubs in an area contest on March 11 in Anchorage, and those winners will move up to the division level on March 25, also in Anchorage. The next level will be at the April 28-30 district conference in Tacoma, Washington, and those winners will be among the finalists in the Aug. 23-26 Toastmasters International Convention in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Mat-Su Toastmasters meets 7:30 am to 8:30 am Tuesdays at Primrose Retirement Center, in the Pub on the second floor, 889 N. Elkhorn, Wasilla. For more information, call 907-232-0624. No fee for guests.
