WASILLA — The Mat-Su Second Saturday celebration has grown to include events in Wasilla, too, this month.
Joining the monthly art walk event are Town Square Art Gallery and the Gathering Grounds Café.
The community is invited to help celebrate the 30th anniversary of Town Square Art Gallery from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Nov. 8 at 591 E. Parks Hwy., Wasilla. Stop in for coffee and cookies from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., or wine and appetizers from 2 to 5 p.m. The event includes free posters and prizes.
The fun continues with “Art and Soul Saturdays” at Gathering Grounds Café and Steamdriven Boutique beginning with a bread bowl baking class at 9:30 a.m., Saturday and with Book Club from 10 a.m. to noon when Alaska Native author and historian William Hensley will talk about his memoir “Fifty Miles From Tomorrow.”
A “Meet the Artists Show” featuring the paintings of Sarah K. Gittlein and encaustic painting and fashion by Judy Vars is from 1 to 4 p.m., and, “Soul Shake Down Night,” an open jam session led by Slade Avalon wraps up the day from 6 to 9 p.m.
Copies of Hensley’s book are available at a 20 percent discount if you mention “Gathering Grounds” at Fireside Books in Palmer. Bring your copy to have it signed by the author.
