PALMER — Alaska State Troopers arrested an Anchorage woman following a high speed chase on the Glenn Highway. At 8:07 p.m., AST observed a silver Ford Taurus drive into a guard rail near mile 27 of the Glenn Highway while in a construction zone. The attempted traffic stop on the Taurus was initially unsuccessful and Troopers then engaged in high-speed pursuit along the Glenn Highway, where other vehicles had to take evasive measures to avoid the Taurus. The driver of the Taurus again drove into a guard rail and attempted to turn around into oncoming traffic, striking the Trooper’s patrol car. Investigation revealed that driver 34-year-old Marlene Ahnupkana of Anchorage was driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage, and all occupants were detained without incident according to Trooper dispatch reports. Ahnupkana was charged with Failure to Stop at the Direction of a Peace Officer 1, Assault 3, Assault 3 against a Law Enforcement Officer, DUI, Reckless Driving, and Driving While License Revoked and taken to Mat-Su Pretrial where she was held without bail.
