Valley residents honored with ‘Heartsaver Hero Award’

American Heart Association will honor Sarah Maffe and Carey Werlein of Palmer with its “Heartsaver Hero Award” at 7 p.m., Nov. 25 at the Fairbanks City Council meeting.

Maffe, a 17-year-old lifeguard at the Palmer Pool, and Werlein, a registered nurse at Providence Alaska Medical Center, provided immediate lifesaving CPR for Fairbanks resident Robbie Lewis, 16, at a school jazz concert last April at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
