PALMER — The ballots are in and as of Sunday it was clear — Mat-Su beer drinkers love the Denali Brewing Company’s Slow Down Brown.
That’s at least according to the People’s Choice Award balloting at this past weekend’s Mighty Matanuska Brewfest.
On its website, the brewery says that the “dark nut-brown ale features velvety chocolate malt up front; a nutty center palate with restrained additions of cumin, coriander, fennel, fenugreek and cardamon; and a slightly sweet lingering finish highlighted by cinnamon, cloves and cayenne.”
We also had to look up fenugreek; it’s an Indian spice.
Winning the People’s Choice Award gives Denali Brewing the right to have a tap at the Alaska State Fair.
Denali brewing actually took first place Saturday and third place on Friday. First place that first night of the brewfest went to the Golden Dahl from 49th State Brewing out of Denali Park and second went to another 49th State concoction, White Peach Wheat.
Saturday didn’t have a third place because two 49th State Brewing beers tied for second — the Equinox D.I.P.A. and that same Golden Dahl from Friday.
