“Trip To Bountiful,” Valley Performing Arts’ last play of the season, opens May 11 for a three-week run at the Fred and Sara Machetanz Theatre in Wasilla.
Elizabeth Hanson will direct the local production of this Horton Foote drama. The cast features VPA veterans Bonnie Honkola and Ted Carney in the roles of Mrs. Watts and Ludie, and new to the stage are Zena Merculief as Thelma and Morgan Johnmeyer as Jessie Mae.
“Trip to Bountiful” tells the story of an aging widow who lives with her son and daughter-in-law in the city, but is desperate to return to the old family homestead in Bountiful before she dies.
Performances of “Trip to Bountiful” are from May 11 to 27. Tickets are $15 for students and seniors and $17 for adults.
VPA is accepting non-perishable food donations at each performance on behalf of the Food Pantry of Wasilla.
The VPA Summer Theatre Arts Program also is accepting applications for youths 6-11 and 12-17.
