WASILLA — Valley Performing Arts, 251 W. Swanson Ave., is accepting applications for its Summer Theatre Arts Programs. It will offer three, two-week sessions for youth ages 6 to 11 and 12 to 17 who want to learn about performing arts.
This year’s educators are Lori Zulliger, Kai West and Megan Webb. Each session will work on a musical play where students will learn lines, create costumes and set the stage. The program culminates with a performance for friends and family on the last day of each camp.
Zulliger’s program is from June 18 to June 29 and youth will perform “Ye-Ha!” and “Cactus Pass Jamboree.” She is a certified teacher who works with Valley homeschoolers enrolled in the IDEA program. She began teaching summer drama camps at VPA in 2007 and also will direct VPA’s play “CLUE The Musical” in February 2013.
West’s program is from July 9 to July 20 and youth will perform a play she wrote called “Tall Tales & Heroes and ALASKA: The Last Frontier.” She has been involved with VPA for more than 13 years and has taught school in the Valley for 12 years, but this is her first year teaching a class in the summer program.
Webb’s program is from July 23 to Aug. 3 and youth will perform “Thwacked?” and “Aesop’s Musical Foible’s.”
This is her fourth year teaching in the summer program. Webb also is an accomplished vocalist and musician and has been an active member of several local groups, such as the Alaska Chamber Singers and the Mat-Su Concert Band.
Space is limited to 25 youth per program and costs $195 for a two-week session.
