Walter John Gilmour

Walter John Gilmour, 73, passed on Jan. 30, 2016, in Waikiki, Hawaii.

Walter was born May 27, 1942, in La Grande, Oregon. He was an only child to Verna Ward and Walter F. Gilmour. He graduated from Ketchikan High School in 1960 and was married to Virginia Sharp in August of 1960. He then enlisted into the Army and was with the 101ST Airborne division.

After Water got out of the Army he became a police officer with Ketchikan Police for two years. In 1964, he became a trooper with the Alaska State Troopers, where he worked for 23 years, retiring as a major in 1987. Walter was co-author of the book “Butcher Baker.”

He continued in the law enforcement field as being the head of Doyon Universal Ogden for additional five years. Walter recently retired from Crime Stoppers but was still currently active as a colonel in the Alaska State Defense Force and part of the MatSu Dive and Rescue team.

While this obituary lists some of Walt's accomplishments, it does not begin to describe the whole of the man who is dearly loved and missed.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia; his two children, Cheryl Gilmour and Walter E. Gilmour; and his four grandchildren, Andrea Kramer, Jonathan Kramer, Christopher Koenen and Walter Luke Gilmour IV.

Memorial Service will be held sometime during the summer.
