WASILLA — Wasilla Area Seniors Inc. was among 10 projects around the state that recently received $83,429 in grant funding from the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority.
The grants fund a wide range of projects and programs that assist people with mental illness, developmental disabilities, chronic alcoholism and other substance related disorders, Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia, and traumatic brain injury that results in permanent brain injury.
The $10,000 grant the Wasilla seniors group received will be used to open a senior day services program to help prevent premature institutionalization.
The Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority annually budgets $250,000 for new and innovative small projects of $10,000 or less that are a direct benefit to Trust beneficiaries.
These beneficiaries include people with mental illness, developmental disabilities, chronic alcoholism and other substance-related disorders, Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia, and traumatic brain injury resulting in permanent brain injury.
Grant applications are accepted three times a year in March, July and November. The deadline for the next cycle of small project grants is March 1. Grant guidelines, eligibility requirements and applications are online at bit.ly/WxE0Z7.
