WASILLA — A Wasilla pilot walked away without injury after a plane crash near Bogard Road early Thursday evening.

The pilot, identified as Tim Delph, crashed his plane during his return entry about 5 p.m. The 53-year-old lost control of his Super Cub and struck a tree within a private residence near an airstrip off Sam’s Circle in Wasilla. Delph suffered no visible injuries. Winds were a factor, Delph said at the scene.

“I saw the flag going one way and the wind sock going another,” Delph said.

Alaska State Troopers and Mat-Su Borough Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene. Delph refused treatment.

Once the first-responders left the airstrip, Delph's neighbors flocked over to help him out. He busily peered at the craft after making several phone calls.

The National Transportation Safety Board was contacted, according to an AST dispatch published late Thursday evening, and approved the removal of the plane from the scene.
