A Wednesday morning fire in Meadow Lakes has left a family of eight homeless.
Mat-Su Borough Deputy Fire Director Ken Barkley said Mat-Su Fire and West Lakes departments responded to a single-family, three-story blaze at 4261 North Captain Circle around 8:11 a.m.
"By the time we got there, flames were 50 to 100 feet in the air," Barkley said. "It was fully involved and there were cabins close by. Everyone got out safe. One person was treated for minor burns trying to put out the fire."
Barkley said the cause of the blaze remains under investigation and it was not known whether or not the owners were insured. He said because the structure was so completely destroyed, the cause may undeterminable. Barkley said firefighters remained on-scene approximately four-and-a-half hours. Willow and Caswell departments were called on stand-by if needed.
Red Cross responded at the scene to assist the family.
