WASILLA – A search is underway for a Palmer moose hunter missing since Saturday near Petersville.
According to the Alaska State Troopers, the 49-year-old man went missing at around 7 a.m. on Saturday. A trooper dispatch issued Monday said the man was missing from a hunting camp located at the base of Little Peters Mountain. The dispatch said troopers were alerted at around 8:52 p.m. by other hunters that the man had not returned to camp.
On Monday, Palmer’s Brady Robinson identified the missing hunter as his friend Charles Hull, who lives in the Bodenburg Butte area. Robinson was not hunting with Hull, but said he last spoke with his friend on Friday. He posted a Facebook message asking for help with the search.
“The last I heard he’s been missing about 40 hours,” Robinson said on Monday at around 11 a.m.
Troopers initiated a ground search on Sunday but were unable to locate any sign of Hull. Weather conditions did not allow for an aerial search, but a trooper dispatch said one will be conducted if the weather clears.
A trooper spokeswoman said an aerial search was launched again on Monday, but that variable weather conditions were making the search difficult.
Robinson said he’s hoping more people will join the search, but said the area requires good ATVs with heavy tires.
“They need search parties but you gotta have good ‘wheelers with good tires,” he said.
Robinson said he’s hopeful the search will turn up his friend.
“We’ve gotta help Charlie,” he said.
