CHICKALOON — Traffic on the Glenn Highway was stopped for a short time Friday morning while emergency crews responded to a fatal accident near Mile 74.
Alaska State Troopers say they received a report of a single-vehicle rollover near Mile 74, Glenn Highway around 7 a.m., June 28.
Palmer Patrol, Bureau of Highway Patrol and emergency services crews responded to the scene, where they say their investigation found a 2004 Chevy Suburban was southbound on the highway when the driver, Yong Lee, 57, of Anchorage, fell asleep.
Troopers say the vehicle — with three people inside — drove into the southbound ditch, returned to the roadway, went into a skid, rolled and came to rest in the northbound ditch.
Chang Yoon, 54, of Anchorage, who was riding in the front passenger seat and wearing a seat belt, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center by ambulance.
Young Yoon, 66, of Anchorage, was laying down in the back seat of the vehicle and was not wearing a seat belt.
“Y. Yoon was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead on scene,” troopers report.
The driver, Lee, was wearing a seat belt, but was seriously injured and was flown to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer.
Investigation continues.
