10 candidates file for two borough seats

MAT-SU -- Ten candidates threw their hats in the ring for the two Mat-Su Borough Assembly seats and two School Board seats open for October's municipal election.

The filing deadline closed at 5 p.m. Friday with four contenders for the Wasilla-area Assembly District 4 seat. That seat is now held by Dan Kelly, who opted to run for Wasilla Mayor on the October ballot.

Mary Kvalheim, Scott Lapiene, Patrick Dee Marley and Dan O'Barr are all certified to run for Assembly District 4. The district spans Wasilla and a portion of the Meadow Lakes area.

Barbara "Tamie" Miller and incumbent assembly member Jody Simpson are both certified to run for the Assembly District 5 seat. The seat winner will represent borough residents from the Knik and Big Lake areas.

School board incumbent Robert Johnson is running unopposed for School Board Seat D, while three candidates are squaring off in the race for School Board Seat E. Incumbent Michael Chmielewski was the first to be certified for the race, while Carolyn "Carrie" Enloe and Konstance "Konnie" Shuey both filed and were certified Friday.

All candidates are running for three-year terms.
