180 new infections and one death in Alaska on Wednesday

DHSS today announced one death of an Alaska resident and 180 new people identified with COVID-19 in Alaska. 170 were residents in: Anchorage (53), Wasilla (22), Bethel (19), Eagle River (13), Bethel Census Area (11), Palmer (11), Kusilvak Census Area (6), Unalaska (6), Seward (4), Aleutians East Borough (2), Chugiak (2), Fairbanks (2), Juneau (2), Ketchikan (2), North Pole (2), North Slope Borough (2), Utqiaġvik (2) and one each in Big Lake, Delta Junction, Dillingham Census Area, Kodiak, Nome, Southeast Fairbanks Census Area, Tok, Valdez and Valdez-Cordova Census Area/Copper River.

Ten new nonresident cases were identified yesterday in:

Unalaska: five in seafood industry

Anchorage: three with purposes under investigation

Locations under investigation: two with purposes under investigation

Three resident cases were added to the dashboard due to data verification procedures bringing the total number of Alaska resident cases to 51,951 and the total number of nonresident cases to 1,719.

ALERT LEVELS – The current statewide alert level, based on the average daily case rate over 14 days per 100,000, is high at 26.08 cases per 100,000. Most regions of Alaska are in high alert status with widespread community transmission. One region is at intermediate alert status with moderate transmission and one region is at low alert with minimal transmission.

Other Interior Region: 21.02 cases per 100,000

Kenai Peninsula Borough: 10.77 cases per 100,000

Juneau City and Borough: 10.72 cases per 100,000

Intermediate (>4.8-10 cases/100,000)

Other Southeast Region - Northern: 5.24 cases per 100,000

Low (0-4.8 cases/100,000)

Other Southeast Region - Southern: 2.87 cases per 100,000

CASES: SEX & AGES – Of the 170 Alaska residents, 75 are male, 93 are female and two are unknown. 17 are under the age of 10; 18 are aged 10-19; 35 are aged 20-29; 27 are aged 30-39; 24 are aged 40-49; 26 are aged 50-59; 16 are aged 60-69; four are aged 70-79 and three are aged 80 or older.

CASES: HOSPITALIZATIONS & DEATHS – There have been a total of 1,176 hospitalizations and 259 deaths, with six new hospitalizations and one recent death reported yesterday. The individual who died was a male Bethel Census Area resident in his 60s. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.

There are currently 49 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 who are hospitalized and no additional patients who are considered persons under investigation (PUI) for a total of 49 current COVID-related hospitalizations. Five of these patients are on ventilators. The percentage of patients currently hospitalized with COVID-19 is 5.2%.

TESTING – A total of 1,467,400 tests have been conducted, with 25,861 tests conducted in the previous seven days. The average percentage of daily positive tests for the previous seven days is 2.87%.

VACCINATIONS – Reported to date, there have been 84,743 dose #1 and 21,100 dose #2 COVID-19 vaccinations given for a total of 105,846 doses administered in Alaska. For more information, visit the Vaccine Monitoring Dashboard.
