PALMER — Two men, around the same age, from different sides of the Mat-Su Valley with two unrelated cases are heading to court on the same day. Jeremy Bendt, 30, of Wasilla, and Orrin Pinard, 31, of Talkeetna, will have their pre-trial conferences on Sept. 21.

Bendt

According to an official affidavit filed by Alaska State Trooper Officer James Kurth that was filed on July 23, on July 22 around 2:15 a.m., he received complaint that a woman was at a private residence off the Old Glenn Highway on porch, ringing the doorbell and screaming that someone was trying to kill her. Kurth stated upon arrival, he found the woman standing on the porch, with blood coming from her mouth and had difficulty breathing.

Kurt stated that through investigation, authorities found that the woman was with Bendt at a cemetery on Old Glenn Highway. Bendt allegedly attacked her with a “fixed blade knife,” struck her, and strangled her with his hands. According to the affidavit, her neck had marks that were “consistent with being strangled.”

“(The woman) was able to fight off Bendt’s attack with the knife. Bendt struck (the woman) in the face with his fist, breaking her jaw in two places and knocking out multiple teeth,” Kurt stated in the affidavit.

After the alleged attack, Bendt took her keys and left in her vehicle, according to the affidavit; she fled the cemetery to a neighboring house for help. The document also indicated that Bendt was charged and indicted with a domestic violence crime against the same woman on July 11.

The woman stated that Bendt has become more violent over the past four months, according to the statements.

According to court documents, Bendt has counts against him: attempted murder in the first degree, assault in the first degree, vehicle theft in the first degree, and assault in the third degree, all of which are class C felonies. He is scheduled for a pre-trial conference on Sept. 21, at 9 a.m. at the Palmer courthouse.

Pinard

Also on Sept. 21, Pinard is going to court after a series of alleged incidents. He has been in court for several other cases spanning over several years with multiple allegations.

Pinard is looking at several charges in his combined cases, including multiple assault charges and criminal mischief, according to court documents.

He is scheduled for a pre-trial conference at 9 a.m. at the Palmer Courthouse.
