2 injured in Palmer apartment fire

PALMER -- Two residents of Daybreak Apartments on Hemmer Road were slightly injured Sunday night in a fire at the complex, Alaska State Trooper spokesman Greg Wilkinson said.

Names of the injured residents were not released.

A total of 21 people live in the building, which houses those who have been

diagnosed with various disabilities.

Wilkinson said the cause of the fire is believed to be accidental, although an exact cause was not known as of Monday morning. No damage estimate has been made. The State Fire Marshal's Office is assisting with the investigation.

The fire was reported to dispatch at 7:36 p.m. In addition to fire units, Palmer Police Department personnel responded to help evacuate tenants and provide crowd control.

The American Red Cross and Lifequest helped locate temporary living quarters for the apartment's residents and their pets, Wilkinson said.
