WASILLA — The Mat-Su Ski Club is hosting its annual Ski for Women event Sunday, Feb. 13 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Government Peak Recreation Area.
Ski for Women is a community event that’s dedicated to having fun and raising money for Alaska Family Services. Mat-Su Ski Club administrator Marla Jakab said this event isn’t just for women. and costumes are encouraged.
“It’s for everybody,” Jakab said.
There is no registration fee, but donations are encouraged. Participants can try their luck with a 50/50 split the pot that’s serving in place of the traditional auction. There will be Ski for Women merchandise available. All proceeds will go toward Alaska Family Services.
There will also be a box for feminine hygiene products at the registration table to collect donations for women and girls in need in the community.
Ski for Women has been an annual tradition since 2014, according to Jakab. She said it’s a casual run with groomed trails and an alternate path for walkers.
“It’s going to be fun. We’re ready to go,” Jakab said.
According to Jakab, this event typically draws in around 100 participants.
The joy and the fun are indescribable,” Jakab said.
