State officials reported 22 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, the most in a single day in Alaska.

“Big number,” Gov. Mike Dunleavy said during a press conference Tuesday evening in Anchorage. “Thankfully, no new deaths. There have been no new deaths in the last few days, which is very good.”

There are now 213 total positive cases in Alaska and nearly 7,000 tests administered within the state.

“We’re trying to ramp up our testing, ramp up our capabilities to defend ourselves against this virus with our hospitals and our medical professionals,” Dunleavy said. “We’re trying to build up these defenses to deal with this curve that we know is coming.”

Ten of the new COVID-19 cases reported Tuesday are in Anchorage, in addition to nine in Fairbanks, two in North Pole and one in Bethel. The Bethel case is the first in western Alaska, and is associated with out-of-state travel, according to state officials.

The Anchorage Municipality — which also includes Eagle River, Chugiak and Girdwood — has 98 total cases. There are 87 in Anchorage. The Fairbanks North Star Borough now has 65 total cases, with 50 in Fairbanks. There are still only four in the Mat-Su Borough, three in Palmer and one in Wasilla.
