3 school board candidates drop out

PALMER — The ever-shifting list of candidates to succeed Tiffany Scott on the Mat-Su Borough School Board following her resignation has shrunk again.

The initial list of applicants was presented to the board two weeks ago. The board decided to extend the deadline to Feb. 25 to get more resumes.

The list grew to 10 but Erick Cordero, a former board member, withdrew his name between the two deadlines.

Last week, Mike Rovito, spokesman for the Alaska Power Association, withdrew last week. Henry Cottle, a former head of maintenance for the district, and Heather Fussell, a homeschooling parent and former doctor’s assistant also dropped out.

Remaining are:

• Neal Lacy, a former board member and retired engine maintenance instructor

• Kelsey Trimmer, owner of A-Two Septic

• Jeanine Milne, a domestic violence/sexual assault clinician

• Sabrena Combs, a mapping analyst for Matanuska Electric Association

• Jessica Steele, entrepreneur and owner of Beehive Beauty Shop

• Andrew Ford, a staffer for Rep. Lynn Gattis

The board intends to interview the candidates at its March 18 meeting and select a candidate then to serve until the fall elections.
