PALMER —Palmer Toastmasters Club is full of fun and self-development. It meets from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m., Tuesdays at the Palmer MTA building, 480 Commercial Drive.
The purpose of the club is to increase communication and leadership skills in a fast-paced, energizing way. Members are interested in self-improvement and fellowship with like-minded individuals.
One of the ways Palmer Toastmasters keeps things lively is by sponsoring speech contests. On Sept. 3 in Palmer, Toastmasters held its club contest for Best Humorous speech and Table Topics champions.
Table Topics gives people a chance to speak extemporaneously on a given topic.
The club winner for Best Humorous Speech was Meschelle Kolb with “SPAM Can Kill: Tips to Help You Die in the Wilderness.” David Driscoll came in second with “It Might Sound Silly Now, But it Once Made Sense.”
The Table Topics winner was Bret Kolb with the question “How Would You Like to Earn Your 15 Minutes of Fame?” David Driscoll came in second with the same question.
These three went on to the Area 1 contest.
Meschelle Kolb won the humorous speech contest and Driscoll came in second with the his speech “The Psychology of My Run.”
Bret Kolb won Table Topics again and Driscoll came in second.
The three will represent the Palmer Toastmasters Club in the Yukon Alaska Council of Toastmasters contest Oct. 19 at the Embassy Suites in Anchorage. For more information, visit palmer.toastmastersclubs.org.
