WASILLA — Sometimes you do get what you wish for.
After failing to come to a consensus on a candidate to fill the seat vacated by recalled Wasilla City Councilman Steve Menard, the council asked for more candidates. The original three council hopefuls — John Luberger, Patrick Johnson and Glenda Leford — were the only ones to reapply until the final hour before Friday’s noon deadline. By the time the deadline passed, four more had applied. The applicants for Seat F on the council are:
• Luberger, a retired business owner who filled a vacancy on the council for five months in 2010.
• Johnson, who lost a race against Steve Colligan for the Mat-Su Borough Assembly in 2011.
• Ledford, owner of a beauty shop and former council candidate. She finished second to Menard in a five-way race for Seat F in 2010.
• Patrick Brown, a local volunteer and advocate. Brown also ran for Seat F in 2010 and in 2011 lost another council race to incumbent Colleen Sullivan-Leonard.
• Jessica Dean, a small business owner and city resident since August 2010.
• Steven DeHart, a retired Alaska State Trooper who’s interested in filling the seat until the Oct. 2 general election.
• Brandon Wall, who has previously been a part of the city’s Parks and Recreation Commission and is a current Planning Commission member.
