The fourth-annual Mat-Su Veterans Resource Fair returns on Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Curtis D. Menard Memorial Sports Center in Wasilla. This free event provides information, resources, educational opportunities, and community support for Veterans and their families.
“The Mat-Su region is home to a large veteran population. The Mat-Su Veterans Resource Fair provides an opportunity for veterans to meet with resource providers, ask questions, file claims, and learn how to navigate valuable support systems,” said event coordinator Penney Champney. “By bringing resources together under one roof, this event helps streamline information and remove the confusion or isolation that many veterans experience.”
Past events have provided veterans and their families connections to resources for education, employment, and recreation. Some organizations, like the Department of Labor, have been providing opportunities for veterans for years. While other non-profits, such as Outreach22, are new to the Borough, and the Veterans Resource Fair provided them an opportunity to reach out to more veterans.
Attendees can find information and resources from over 50 organizations including:
Community Resources: Local support networks and community organizations will be on hand to discuss ways they can assist Veterans and their families.
Information and Counseling: Veterans and their families will have access to expert advice on benefits, mental health, career guidance, educational opportunities, housing, and caregiver support.
Health and Wellness: Organizations specializing in Veterans’ health and wellness will provide information on physical and mental well-being.
The Mat-Su Veterans Resource Fair is free and open to all Veterans, military personnel, and their families and friends. This event aims to create a supportive atmosphere for Veterans to connect with the resources and services they need to thrive.
“It’s important that veterans know our community cares and appreciates their sacrifices,” Champney added. “This fair is about breaking down silos and improving the quality of life for veterans in the Mat-Su. Together, we can build a stronger community.”
The Mat-Su Veterans Resource Fair is made possible through the dedication and support of the Mat-Su Health Foundation, Alaska Office of Veterans Affairs, and the Alaska VA. For more information, please call (907) 352-4413.
