Mighty Monster Boo Fest

PALMER — It’s time again for the Mighty Monster Boo Fest, also known as the Mighty Matanuska Brewfest. The event is Saturday from 6 to 10 p.m. at Raven Hall on the Alaska State Fairgrounds. This is an annual brew festival that is now sanctioned by the Brewers Guild. There will be an assortment of locally crafted beers from breweries like Alaskan Brewing Co., Arkose Brewery, Bleeding Heart Brewery, Denali Brewing Co., Glacier BrewHouse, Kassik’s Brewery, Girdwood Brewing Company, Gakona Brewing Company, King Street Brewing Company, Kenai River Brewing Company and QUAKE Brewing Company.

Live entertainment starts at 7:15 p.m. Fresh food will be available for purchase, including tamales, roasted nuts and barbeque. In the spirit of Halloween, the festival will have a costume contest with prizes at 9:15 p.m. There will also be a silent auction and raffle.

Tickets are now available on the Alaska State Fair website. Tickets are also sold at Vagabond Blues, Three Bears Alaska Inc., and Purple Moose Espresso. Each $35 ticket comes with 20 3-ounce beer samples. Designated driver tickets are also available for $10, and include non-alcoholic beverages.

Glow with the Flow Blacklight Party

WASILLA — Rock–On Climbing is hosting its annual Glow with the Flow Blacklight Party Saturday from noon to 10 p.m. The first portion of the party is from 12 to 5 p.m. and is open to all ages. The last portion of the party will be the adult party (ages 16 and above).

Blacklights will be on for the entire event and those attending are encouraged to wear a costume, preferablythose that glow under the blacklight. There will be a costume contest for guys, girls and teams. This event will feature climbing, slacklining, crate-stacking, other fun games, a paint booth, and more for both parties. The youth costume contest will be at 4 p.m. and the adult costume contest will be at 9 p.m. The event cost $5 for members and $10 for non-members. Beer will be on-site during the adult party.

The Glow with the Flow Blacklight Party is a unique and colorful way to celebrate Halloween with the folks at Rock-On Climbing. This is a chance to show off your best costumes while staying active in a fun and safe atmosphere.

Rock-On Climbing is located at 1080 Wasilla-Fishhook Road.

Halloween Community Potluck and scary readings

PALMER — Prepare for spooky food and haunting tales Sunday from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at the Halloween Community Potluck & Scary Readings set for the Palmer Train Depot. The historic depot will be fashioned with Halloween scenery as ghosts, ghouls, goblins and witches frightfully delight their mortal guests. The doors open at 4:30 p.m. and the dinner begins at 5 p.m. After the feast, volunteers filled with spirits will share their scariest stories, live on stage. The cost for entry for this event is just to bring a dish for the potluck.

According to the event page, here are the guidelines for potluck dishes: “Those attending are asked to bring a main dish, side dish, salad or dessert, but no breads or rolls and are also reminded to bring whatever serving utensils are necessary for their dish. Please include a recipe with the dish so we can be sensitive to the needs of persons with allergies. Creative Halloween themed dishes are encouraged! Paper plates will be available, but all are welcome to bring their own plates and silverware. My Matanuska Marketplace will have water, soft drinks, coffee and tea available for sale.”

Halloween vape party

WASILLA — An eerie fog is coming to Alaska Elixirs Vape this Sunday from 6 to 10 p.m. It’s time again for their annual Halloween Vape Party. This event is a chance to show off your vape skills and perform tricks at the Vape Contest. There will be also be contest for the best dressed guests, so costumes are encouraged. There will be door prizes, free food and other goodies and activities available throughout the night. The Halloween Vape Party is a one of a kind way to celebrate All Hallows Eve. This event is sure to be filled with interesting characters. Registration for the contests begins at 6 p.m.

Spook-tacular shopping event

PALMER — My Matanuska Marketplace’s Spook-tacular Shopping Event has returned from the dead. This Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. the Palmer Train Depot will be a Halloween-themed marketplace with local vendors offering a variety of gifts, clothes crafts, and more to treat yourself do some holiday shopping for others.

Visitors can get their faces painted and get their pictures taken at the “Scary Hair Booth.” There will even be a gift wrapping station that runs off donations. Costumes are encouraged, as the vendors will be wearing them as well.
