6 earn Eagle Scout honors

MAT-SU — Six Boy Scouts from Troop No. 321 — Nick Durbin, Brandon Olson, Tyler Olson, Kody Shaw, Marshall Watson III and Rob Lozanoff — became Eagles at a Court of Honor Oct. 15.

More than 125 people attended the ceremony where Ed Soto was master of ceremonies and Kathy Olson, who has been with the group since they were Cub Scouts, was Scoutmaster.

LaRae Pepper gave the prayer and the benediction from Church on the Rock.

Presenting the colors from the Alaska Air National Guard were MSgt. Chad Jennings and Senior Airman Arron Brehm, and from the Bear Paw District Troop John Goudy, Mica Hoage and Thomas Soto.

Durbin completed his Eagle Scout award Aug. 25, 2010. His father, Pat Durbin, and brother, Nathan Durbin, are also Eagle Scouts.

Brothers Brandon and Tyler Olson completed their Eagle Scout awards Aug. 9. Their grandfather, Leroy, and his brother, Dan Slanaker — their great uncle — became Eagle Scouts in Oregon 54 years ago in 1957.

Marshall Watson III completed his Eagle Scout award Aug. 9. His father, Marshall Watson II, is a Life Scout.

Shaw completed his Eagle Scout award Aug. 9 and Lozanoff completed his Eagle Scout award Sept. 22.

Commissioner Kathy Towns gave the “Mother’s Poem” and Diane Tresham gave the reading of “Uniform Boy.”

Lighting of the candle was Cub Scout Michael J. Weigel, Boy Scout John Goudy and Eagle Scout Zack Cherry.

Cherry also gave the Scout Law and the Reaffirming to the Promise.
