There are now six people who have been indicted by a grand jury and face a list of charges that include the murder of an unborn child.
It all stems from an incident in the Wasilla area Dec. 5 in which a pair of unnamed victims were kidnapped and beaten. A female victim was pregnant and the unborn child died as result of injuries sustained Dec. 5, according to the Alaska State Troopers.
Peter Williams, 32, Darin Smith, 26, and Andre Franklin, 41, were arrested on Dec. 5 and charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault, kidnapping, robbery and misconduct involving weapons. The three men were indicted by a Palmer Grand Jury on Dec. 13. The indictment also included three more suspects: Abigail Thomas, 20, Dhamma Karuna, 42, and Erick Hodgins, 40. Thomas, Karuna and Hodgins are from Anchorage.
The arrest of Williams, Smith and Franklin followed a report of gunshots fired near Hollywood Road and Sylvan Lane. The Alaska State Troopers responded to the area about 9:30 p.m. Dec. 5 and found people injured, one with life threatening injuries. The victims were transferred by ambulance to the Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. Troopers also received a report that three men had been seen walking from the scene holding what appeared to be weapons, according to troopers. Troopers made contact with Williams, Smith and Franklin while the three were walking on an ATV trail off West Hollywood Road and South Vale Avenue, which was close to the scene.
Williams, Smith and Franklin were arraigned earlier this month. Williams and Franklin are in custody in Anchorage, and Smith is in custody at Mat-Su Pretrial. Thomas, Karuna and Hodgins were arraigned in Anchorage Dec.18, and are also in custody. Thomas, Karuna and Hodgins are scheduled to appear in a Palmer courtroom Dec. 23.
