Alaska State Troopers responded to seven separate motor-vehicle accidents involving moose Thursday through Saturday in the Valley.
On Saturday, Kerri Beliveau, 38, of Big Lake, struck a moose on Hollywood Road near Johnson Road at 6:05 p.m. Beliveau wore a seat belt and was not injured, troopers said. Damage to the 1996 Subaru Legacy she was driving was estimated at $4,000.
Jeannie M. Berres, 51, of Wasilla, was driving south at Mile 2 Big Lake Road at 9:15 a.m. Friday in a 1989 Nissan pickup truck when she struck a bull moose. Berres sustained a fractured left hand and was transported to Valley Hospital. She was wearing a seat belt and alcohol was not a factor, troopers said.
Three collisions occurred within 40 minutes Friday evening. In the first, Paul Racenet, 38, of Wasilla, was driving west on Fairview Loop in a 1996 Ford truck at 5:04 p.m. when he hit a moose that had walked onto the road. Racenet, who wore a seat belt, was not injured. The truck sustained an estimated $3,000 damage.
At 5:15 p.m. Friday, June Dilly, 46, of Palmer, struck a bull moose near Mile 11.5 Old Glenn Highway. Dilley wore a seat belt and was not hurt. Damage to the vehicle she was driving was estimated at more than $4,000.
At 5:44 p.m. Friday, Verna Gill, 53, of Anchorage, was driving south at Mile 46 Parks Highway in a 1997 Ford Explorer when she hit a moose. Gill and a 14-year-old passenger were taken to Valley Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, troopers said. The vehicle was totaled.
Thursday at 7:15 a.m., Tommy D. McMillan, 40, of Wasilla, hit a moose while driving east on Tex-Al Road in a 2000 Dodge Neon. McMillan was not injured and alcohol was not a factor, according to troopers. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $4,000.
Also Thursday, troopers said an unknown commercial vehicle going north on the Parks Highway at King Arthur Drive struck a moose at 10:50 p.m. The impact knocked the animal into the other lane and a 1993 Honda Acura driven by Michelle Misiewicz, 33, of Anchorage, also hit the moose. Misiewicz was treated for minor injuries at Valley Hospital.
