CANTWELL — Eight people on board a 196 6 DHC-2 DeHaviland walked away unharmed after the pilot was forced to make an emergency landing near the Cantwell airport Saturday evening.
Alaska State Troopers responded to the report of a downed aircraft near Mile 191, Parks Highway at 7:24 p.m., July 7 after the pilot put the plane down in a marshy area approximately 5 miles south of Summit Airfield in Cantwell.
Troopers contacted the Denali National Park Rangers and coordinated the use of the park’s A-Star Helicopter and the lead pilot for the tour company, Fly Denali, contacted an Era Helicopter and all eight people on the plane were safely transported from the scene to Summit Airfield, according to a trooper statement.
All eight declined treatment by Cantwell emergency services personnel who were standing by at the airfield and were then transported back to their hotels.
