To Christians the Gospel of John is their very core of faith to believe for the deity of Jesus.
The Bible though speaks of Jesus being the second person of the Godhead in many other places throughout the New and Old Testament.
I remember growing up as a young Christian when someone would get saved the minister would always encourage the new convert to begin by reading the gospel of John.
It seems today that there is a lot of negative teaching on the Gospel of John. Negative, because it tries to affect the faith of people to believe in the deity of Christ. The apostle John spoke of the deity of Christ throughout the gospel of John, which in fact only confirmed what was stated in many other parts of the Bible.
Early church tradition attributes the fourth gospel to John “the beloved disciple.” The apostle John moved to Ephesus around A.D. 66-70 and wrote his gospel in the latter part of the first century.
To add to this, Irenaeus, the Bishop of Lyons in the latter part of the second century stated “John, the disciple of the Lord, who also leaned upon his breast, did himself publish a Gospel during his residence in Ephesus in Asia.”
The gospel of John speaks directly to the deity of Jesus in John 1:1-2 it says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.”
And again in John 1:14, just so there was no misunderstanding who Jesus was, John spoke with the leading of the Holy Spirit, “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us ...”
I have no problem of believing for the Gospel of John and it’s authenticity of the author, the apostle John. The agnostics, the unbelievers, they have their theories which always leads away from the truth of God’s word and that is their prerogative, ours as a Christian is to believe the word of God.
Jesus knew he was divine he spoke to this in many places in the gospels, in Matthew 25:31 he said “when the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:”
To the Christians: we know that Jesus is the Son of God, the very deity of God. What is difficult to understand is why so many refuse to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, who paid the price for all mankind’s sins. All one has to do to be born again is to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, believe that God raised him from the dead and make that confession with their mouth and repent of their sins and turn away from them.
Jesus said in John 14:4 “... whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
The unbelieving world doesn’t know that God loves them so much that he sent His only begotten Son. God does not love their sin, but the unbeliever need to know Jesus paid the price for all mankind sins. In the gospel of John Jesus taught on what God holds against the unbeliever in 3:18 “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
Jesus is the Son of God, the Holy Spirit conceived Jesus in Mary’s womb to be born a man. Jesus is the deity of God. Jesus shed his blood at the cross and paid for all mankind’s sins. Jesus sits at the right hand of the father in heaven. Jesus is divine.
