A challenge to all parents

To Wasilla City Councilmen Brandon Wall and A. Clark Buswell III:

I was very disappointed that the Wasilla City Council did not pass a law to prohibit illicit synthetic drugs in our community.

I was shocked that Mr. Wall and Mr. Buswell voted against this ordinance. Both men should be ashamed of themselves. It really should have been a no-brainer. The No. 1 priority should be the safety and wellbeing of our children and the community. Both of these men had their paperwork for one month prior to the meeting in order to make necessary changes as needed to pass this ordinance. There really is no good excuse.

The police chief was hired to do a job, yet you cannot back him up when he really needed your help to succeed in protecting our children and the community. Yes, these drugs are now arriving here in Alaska. One high school boy already has been hospitalized for seizures and other symptoms relating to this drug called “Spice.” This incident took place during school time and deeply affected the school staff and the other students who witnessed this event.

How many incidents do we need before a child is dead? Believe me, that is a parent’s worst nightmare. I challenge all parents to come to the next city council meeting on at 6 p.m., March 24. Let us show the council that safety for our children is a No. 1 priority. If this ordinance is not passed at the next council meeting, some council members will not have my vote in the next election.
