A conservative let-down

This is an open letter to all who call yourselves conservatives and Republicans.

Shame on you for a lousy 20-percent voter turnout! For whatever reason, you don’t believe local elections are important enough for you. Well, you just handed the school board and the Mat-Su Borough Assembly to the Friends of Mat-Su!

We had an opportunity to maintain a strong fiscally conservative school board that would have negotiated from a position of strength with the National Education Association.

We could have said “no” to more money sent to the NEA and maybe more funds would have gone for building maintenance, books, structures and the things that better help students learn. I’ve heard far to many times the cry for more money for education, and all I’ve really seen is it go to the NEA.

You wanted a better education for your kids? Not going to happen now.

For my assembly seat, just a solid 400 more votes would have elected a conservative who would have attended all meetings, stayed to the end and really listened to the people, not just the liberal minority.

We could have removed a socialist who can’t keep a promise, skips out of meetings prior to voting and says she is our voice on the assembly.

Yet, she voted for the California ordinance in direct opposition to 75 percent of voting Matanuska Electric Association members who opposed that ordinance.

By the way, the turnout for the MEA vote almost exceeded the Borough election, and if you figure a two-vote household that would be more like 75 percent of more than 18,000.

So, for those of you who were just too busy to get out and protect our homes from the Friends of Mat-Su, aka extreme socialist liberals, shame! For those true conservatives and Republicans who found the time and the energy to understand the issues and the candidates, thank you for voting.
