A message for legislators

I recently sent all 50 legislators a public opinion message. Of course, I received no responses. Perhaps it was the content of the message that chilled them. The message went as follows:

“Since you folks are fond of mandatory sentences, especially the Republicans, why not a mandatory minimum of 20 years for those convicted of public corruption-type offenses?”

Why not set the example? I wonder if these folks in the Legislature have the intestinal fortitude to address breaches of the public trust committed by their kind, which harm us all in many, many ways with long-term effects. … [Not like] some poor schlep who yells at his kids, which makes him a domestic violence criminal for the rest of his life. Or, for that matter, any number of the rather ridiculous laws they have so famously passed in recent years.
