WASILLA — A List Productions put on a special three-day performance at the Valley Performing Arts theater in downtown Wasilla.

“A Night of Musicals” featured songs from iconic plays such as “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,” “Chicago,” and “Hairspray.” It also featured numerous skits with characters from different plays interacting with each other.

“It's been a lot of fun," A List Productions founder Bronsen Stewart said. “It all segways into itself.”

Stewart said “A Night of Musicals” was an original theater project with about 30 different community members who were involved. He said many of the actors worked with him on previous A List Productions sets and he was thankful to tap into their talents again.

“The vocals and the dancing are super good," Stewart said. “It's awesome.”

Stewart noted that a number of the actors in “A Night of Musicals'' have also performed with VPA. He said that the VPA stage was an ideal setting for this play and he looks forward to collaborating with the nonprofit with other projects in the future.

“It just opens up more opportunities for everybody," Stewart said.

Stewart grew up in the Mat-Su Valley and graduated from Colony High School. He said that he's been involved with theater since elementary school and was raised by a musically oriented family.

“I just always did it," Stewart said.

In addition to directing, Stewart also acts in many of the plays he works on through A-List Productions. He said that he enjoys working on all aspects of the stage.

“When it comes down to it, I just love to do it,” Stewart said.

Stewart said that one of his main motivations for creating A-List Productions was to offer the community a wider range of plays. He said the vast majority of plays put on in the Valley have been more family-oriented, and his group strives to offer more options ranging from classic musicals to more “off the wall” shows.

“We're kind of a more envelope-pushing production,” Stewart said.

Stewart has worked with a diverse collection of local actors and theater crews to put on shows such as “Little Shop of Horrors,” “Jesus Christ Superstar,” and “Matilda.”

“We just want to do things we're passionate about,” Stewart said.

Stewart said there's an abundance of local talent to draw from when putting a production together.

“It's incredible,” Stewart said.
