To the editor:
The MASCOT buses are my lifeline in the Valley since I do not drive a car anymore (I was hit by a red-light-runner eight years ago), and I keep learning it is a lifeline for many other residents, too.
As we approach the Oct. 4 election day, I sure hope that whomever is elected or re-elected will put a lot more time, effort and money into expanding MASCOT with more routes, more bus stops and some weekend bus service.
Repeatedly, I keep hearing and reading that the Mat-Su Valley is the fastest-growing part of the entire state of Alaska. Therefore, MASCOT should be the fastest growing bus system in the entire state. Let’s expand MASCOT to meet the needs of all these residents of all ages.
Yes, I’m a MASCOT fan, and at times I’m a very vocal cheerleader for our local 12-year-old bus system.
So, politicians, I urge you to strengthen, expand and please do your very best for this very, very, very, very, very important lifeline in the ever-growing Mat-Su Valley.
