To the editor:
Recently, a friend received a call from a person representing the Jamey Duhamel campaign for Matanuska Electric Association board. The caller wanted to make sure that everyone knew my views on coal.
In regard to this, I have two concerns. First, no one called to ask my opinion, so I am unclear whose opinion they were expressing.
Secondly, I am reading your response to the MEA questionnaire where you state you are “contracted by Castle Mountain Coalition, whose mission statement is to protect the ecological integrity and economic viability of the Matanuska watershed. As such, my job with them is to advocate against the development of coal mining in that region. Since coal investment and generation is not on MEA’s agenda, I see no conflict of interest with this connection.”
My question: If coal is not on the agenda, why is that the primary issue in the script for your phone bank?
