WASILLA — It didn’t take long for the Wasilla Warriors to get started Saturday afternoon.

Senior Jake Barber knocked a ball off the crossbar and into the net during the first minute to spark Wasilla during a 7-2 win over the Seward Seahawks at Wasilla High School.

“Jake started things off 45 seconds in, so that was good,” Wasilla head coach Blake Livingston said.

Wasilla scored three times during the first 19 minutes en route to improving 2-1-0 overall.

“We had good possession and focused on the speed of play after the firs touch,” Livingston said. “Our whole emphasis today was to do the small things that will make us better as the season progresses.”

Paul Sliwa, Dustin Hout and Kyler Perry each scored a pair of goals for Wasilla.

Sliwa knocked a shot off of the fingertips of Seward goalkeeper John Treece during the 15th minute to give the Warriors the two-goal advantage. Treece deflected Sliwa’s hard shot from inside the box just underneath the crossbar.

Four minutes later, Hout scored the first of his two goals to push Wasilla’s lead to 3-0. Sliwa also scored during the final minute of the first half.

Early in the second, Hout found the inside of the left corner of the net to give Wasilla the five-goal lead. Perry scored during the 52nd and 68th minutes to round out the Wasilla scoring.

Gabe Stovall scored for the Seahawks during the 58th minute to put the Seahawks on the scoreboard. Sammy Pfluger scored for Seward during the 63rd minute.

Chaz Davilia-Rush earned the win in the WHS net.

The match was Wasilla’s third of the season and first at Wasilla High School this spring. The Warriors now look ahead to a busy week that includes three matches. The Warriors face Service on Tuesday and Grace Christian on Wednesday in Anchorage, and host Juneau-Douglas Friday at WHS.
