A reflection on the incredible generosity of Alaskans

To the editor:

In the nonprofit sector, we rely on state and federal funding, philanthropy, and, for some, earned revenue. While most agree that reduced state funding for critical community programs and services cannot be made up by philanthropy, we do absolutely rely on the generosity of individuals, corporations and foundations to support our missions. BP’s announcement that they were leaving Alaska after 60 years of legacy generosity also left the nonprofit sector grieving, but already Hilcorp has stepped up and demonstrated that they will be a strong community partner too.

I’ve taken some time over the last few months to learn a bit more about Hilcorp and their way of doing business and their way of giving. I’m encouraged by many things I see.

Providence Alaska Foundation’s vision is to be an active philanthropic partner funding
