A sad day in Palmer

To the editor:

It’s a sad day in Palmer with the passing of Proposition 3. One thing that I loved about Palmer is that it is unique and people here seemed to have the sense to think for themselves, make their own choices and keep government out of our business.

For the 400 or so people who voted to pass this law, how many have actually been in the three bars that currently allow smoking and how does this law benefit you? I’ve heard all the arguments that smoking is not healthy (and) the list changes every day.

One of the reasons this proposition was initiated was because “everywhere else” has gone smoke-free. Well, congratulations. Palmer will soon be like everywhere else where individual choices and rights are slowly being taken away. I really feel sorry for the three business owners in town that this law targets. I’ll just stay home more.

To me, your own home is no different than a private business. Won’t be long, though, before we’re told what we can and can’t do there, too. For those who voted “yes” on Proposition 3, think about it.
