A study in contrasts

To the editor:

Chuck Legge laments that our poor beleaguered president “can do nothing right, for some.”

Sniff. I need a Kleenex. Chuck omits that Obama always has an enormous cheering section; the slavishly adoring liberal media (including Chuck) to prop him up and invent elaborate excuses for every blunder he makes.

He likewise forgets that George Bush also could “do nothing right, for some,” the “some” being liberal Democrats — except President Bush lacked that adoring media. Not only did his own party not defend him, neither did he defend himself. Even Fox News was lukewarm at best, treating him with fairness and balance. Plus, he had the grace to never once blame his predecessor, Bill Clinton for anything — not one thing in eight years.

President Bush was not allowed to enjoy even one hour of glory after the fall of the Saddam Hussein regime before the liberal media clobbered him with a sledgehammer, essentially for taunting. President Obama, however, is allowed to trumpet the capture and killing of Saddam ad infinitum with irritating frequent use of first person pronouns “I,” “my” and “me.”

Those pronouns are damned hard to find when researching the comments and speeches of George W. Bush, except when uttered in the context of self-deprecation.

Two presidents who could never do anything right, but what a difference.
