A vote for Begich

To the editor:

When my fellow seniors tell me I should vote for candidates with an R after their names, I have to ask them why on earth I would do that. Don’t seniors know that the Rs have repeatedly voted to turn Medicare into a voucher program? Even if we over-65s get to keep our Medicare, sloughing off under-55s into the voucher program will cause premiums for our Medicare to skyrocket. Since premiums are deducted from our Social Security, some of us will end up with more deducted than is left.

Also, don’t seniors know that Rs repeatedly vote to cut Medicare, even without imposing the voucher program, to return us to the donut hole in prescription drug benefits, and to cancel preventive medicine treatments and screenings now covered by Medicare?

The reason we haven’t yet had our medical coverage gutted by Rs is because Democrats control the Senate. Like him or not, Mark Begich is the only way we can protect our health care. I’m voting D.
