WASILLA — A collision in front of Target that sent two people to the hospital Friday evening with minor injuries was captured by the store’s surveillance cameras.
Security cameras in the Target parking lot near the Parks Highway filmed 62-year-old John Cordova turning his blue Chevrolet left off of the highway into the store’s parking lot at about 6:15 p.m., said Sgt. Kelly Swihart of the Wasilla Police Department. The sedan turned in front of a late-model Ford Excursion driven by Wendy Lawton, 31.
The Excursion collided with Cordova’s car, sending the SUV into a roll and spinning the Chevy into the Jeep, Swihart said.
The Jeep suffered minor damage and no one in that vehicle was hurt, Swihart said. Lawton and Harvey Greenwood, 50, a passenger in Cordova’s vehicle, were transported to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.
It was unusual for the accident to be caught on tape, which will help police determine how the crash took place, Swihart said.
“We were able to go back and watch it after the fact,” he said. “It’s not very often we have a chance to go back and look at those sorts of things.”
Cordova was cited for failure to yield when turning left.
